On Sunday America will celebrate its unofficial national holiday – the Super Bowl.  Somewhere between the GoDaddy and Bud Light commercials the Broncos and Seahawks will battle to see which team can score the most points over a span of 60 minutes.

Rumors abound the NFL will introduce a new rule this year.  At some point during the game NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will determine one team has too many points than the other.  He will arbitrarily take points away from the team that’s winning and award them to the team that’s losing.  It’s called “points inequality” and goes against every moral fiber of Americans.

Wait, that’s silly.  The Super Bowl is a game.  There has to be a winner and there has to be a loser.  After all it’s not as though the rules differ.  Each team plays on a field of the same dimensions, has the same number of players, must gain 10 yards for a first down, gets 3 points for every field goal, etc.  Why would Commissioner Goodell do something so silly?

It’s a great question.  Maybe President Obama can shed some light on this.  His war on “income equality” seemingly flows from the same illogical ideology.  Much as the Broncos and Seahawks play by the same rules so do we in playing the game of life.  We all have access to an education, we all must eat and sleep, etc.  Shouldn’t there be winners and losers in life?  Why the government mandate that we must all be equal?  Why the social engineering?

If fixing inequality is President Obama’s agenda he can start with the income tax system.  In a country of over 300 million people 1.36 million of us pay more taxes than the bottom 90%.

Well these are the “one-percenters” so they can afford to pay.  Really?  Income statistics show taxpayers earning $35,000/yr or more pay more than 97% of all income taxes collected.  Are you a “one-percenter” at $35,000/yr?

Whether playing a football game or discussing income distribution fairness is fairness.  If you believe your $35,000/yr isn’t yours and should be given to someone who doesn’t earn as much as you then you’re fine with Commissioner Goodell’s plan to reallocate points from one team to another.  If you think Commissioner Goodell’s idea sounds awfully dumb then you might want to reach out to the Orator in Chief and tell him “asking the millionaires and billionaires to pay a little bit more” is equally dumb.

Facts are facts.  Success is under attack in our country.  Tom Perkins got into hot water comparing the attack on the “rich” to the Holocaust.  His analogy may be a social hot button but there’s no denying the parallel.  Nazi Germany was a propaganda machine.  Tell the German people the Jews are to blame for their rotten lot in life.  The only way to solve the problem is to systematically torture and kill millions.  How exactly is the US different when we tell the average American it’s the “rich” to blame for the country’s ills and the only way to fix our mess is to tax the bejesus out of them?  Remember, you’re “rich” for earning $35,000/yr!

When Sunday rolls around it’s important to enjoy ourselves.  Spend time with our friends and family, have some good food and drink and enjoy a fair game played by two teams under the same set of rules.  However when the clock strikes 00:00 at the end of the fourth quarter and the reality of a winner and loser sets in we shouldn’t feel elated or sorry.  It’s simply how things work.  Right Mr. Obama?
